Kauvery Hospitals Launches Tamil Nadu’s First Dual Pulsed Field Ablation Programme for Advanced Heart Rhythm Treatment

Kauvery Hospitals has launched Tamil Nadu’s first dual Pulsed Field Ablation programme, introducing the advanced Medtronic PulseSelect™ and Biosense Webster Varipulse™ systems for treating cardiac arrhythmias. The initiative enhances heart rhythm care through safer, faster and more precise treatment supported by advanced 3D mapping technology.

In a major advancement for cardiac care in Tamil Nadu, Kauvery Hospitals has launched two of the world’s most advanced Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) systems for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, marking a significant milestone in the management of cardiac arrhythmias. The programme introduces the Medtronic PulseSelect™ platform at the Alwarpet facility and the Biosense Webster Varipulse™ platform at the Vadapalani facility, with the latter integrated with an advanced 3D cardiac mapping system.

The launch marks the first time that both PulseSelect™ and Varipulse™, along with a 3D mapping-integrated PFA platform, have been introduced in Tamil Nadu. The development further strengthens Kauvery Hospitals’ position in advanced cardiac electrophysiology and heart rhythm care.

To commemorate the launch, internationally recognised electrophysiology experts from the United States visited Chennai and collaborated with the Kauvery Hospitals team to initiate the PFA programme and support the first procedures.

Pulsed Field Ablation is a next-generation treatment designed primarily for heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation, one of the most common forms of cardiac arrhythmia. Unlike conventional ablation methods that rely on heat through radiofrequency ablation or extreme cold through cryoablation, PFA uses precisely controlled electrical pulses to selectively target and eliminate cells responsible for abnormal heart rhythms.

The procedure is based on electroporation, a process that enables targeted treatment of affected heart tissue while minimising damage to surrounding structures, including the oesophagus, phrenic nerve and blood vessels. As a non-thermal technology, PFA represents a major advancement in procedural safety and efficiency. With increasing global clinical experience, it is being recognised as one of the most important recent developments in cardiac arrhythmia management.

The launch event was attended by veteran cardiologist Dr. N.S. Sivakadaksham, who served as Chief Guest and welcomed the introduction of the technology. He highlighted its potential to improve treatment outcomes for patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders.

During the event, Dr. Sivakadaksham also inaugurated Kauvery Hospitals’ new Heart Rhythm Package, an affordable and specialised evaluation programme designed to facilitate early diagnosis and expert treatment for patients experiencing symptoms such as palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, unexplained fatigue and episodes of rapid heartbeat. The package aims to promote early detection and timely intervention, factors that can significantly improve long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Kauvery Hospitals, revealed that three patients had already been successfully treated using the new systems across both centres.

“One of the patients was a 69-year-old woman who had been experiencing recurrent palpitations for two years. She had tried several medications for her irregular heart rhythm without success. The PFA procedure was completed within one hour through a minimally invasive access point in the right groin. She was discharged the following day on minimal medication. The safety, effectiveness and speed of PFA make it a unique technology. We are proud to bring this next-generation treatment to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Beyond Pulsed Field Ablation, the Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Kauvery Hospitals offers comprehensive heart rhythm care, including advanced diagnostic services such as electrocardiography, Holter monitoring and electrophysiology studies. The department also operates specialised arrhythmia clinics and performs a wide range of complex ablation procedures and device-based therapies, including pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy. Supported by advanced 3D mapping systems and a multidisciplinary team, the department provides complete care for patients with complex heart rhythm disorders.

Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said the organisation remains committed to introducing proven and evidence-based medical innovations for patients.

“At Kauvery Hospitals, we are focused on adopting technologies that simplify procedures, enhance patient safety and improve clinical outcomes. The introduction of Pulsed Field Ablation reflects our commitment to delivering world-class cardiac care and ensuring access to the latest global advancements,” he said.

With the simultaneous introduction of both PulseSelect™ and Varipulse™ platforms, Kauvery Hospitals has strengthened its leadership in advanced cardiac care, providing patients across Tamil Nadu, neighbouring states and international destinations access to some of the most innovative and sophisticated heart rhythm treatments currently available.
